PERSONALITY:
Freyr isn't an overly complex character but he comes up with rather complex and pointless plots. He heavily prefers theatrics and dramatics. The more convoluted it is, the more he likes it. This could be because of his romantic nature and the sorts of things that tend to be romanticized. This basic trait can easily be seen by the fact he has decided his human world persona would be a Phantom Thief. His reasoning for this was because Loki was acting as a detective, and since he would be Loki's rival, and a phantom thief is a detectives rival, he would become one himself. Of course his reasons for being up against Loki are paper thin, and half the time he seems to be more playing a role than using the role for a particular goal.

Another example of his over exaggerated romanticism is his falling in love with Mayura, Loki the main characters assistant, at first sight. He decides from this one off encounter that she is the perfect Japanese woman and from that moment on (despite learning her name and hearing it many times) calls her Yamato Nadeshiko. He is determined to steal her heart and marry her. He pretty much forgot everything else he was doing after this, which was pretty much one of the first things that happened after he was introduced.

Besides having ridiculous ideas of romanticism and defining his life as if he were living a play or was a character in a fictional novel Freyr is also pretty air headed. It's hard to say if he's outright stupid, because he is capable of some clever things (though perhaps creative is the more appropriate word for it), however lots of simple things confuse him, he is quick to distraction and seems to be incapable of taking anything very serious for very long. On the other hand he will take stupid things no one should seriously and can't let go of it. The only thing he does take legitimately serious is his sister Freya and her safety. But even then he has shown to forget about her and his worry about her frequently.

Originally Freyr teamed up with Heimdall who was ordered by Odin to put a Rune on Loki so he could not return to Asgard and pretty much make Loki's life hell and horrible. But this was all Heimdall's idea as there was a grudge between them. Odin also ordered Heimdall to deal with Loki. Freyr's only concern was the fact that Freya was said to be on Earth somewhere and potentially a target of Loki's. Worried that his precious sister would get corrupted by the trickster god he wanted to find her and save her before Loki could do something wrong.

In the end Freya is fine (and is in love with Loki so she doesn't like people attacking him), Freyr the moment he sees she's okay is fine with it and then carries on as usual. It was pretty much a "Oh hey there you are Freya, I'm glad you're okay! Now back to stalking Yamato Nadeshiko and being a Phantom Thief!" which sums up his general flow of personality pretty well.

Freyr is what most would call a ditz, in fact he and his sister are frequently referred to as the "stupid siblings" because they are so dingy most the time. However despite this Freyr somehow is capable of many great feats, he is considered a hero of the gods for a reason. So usually even if it might be in a fumbling sort of manner Freyr manages to succeed with his goals. However he doesn't get to succeed in his current personal goals. (Though his thievings are successful despite the fact he doesn't get far with the items, usually giving them to Mayura before he escapes.) Mostly this is because his first goal is to keep Loki in Midgard, though he doesn't seem particularly interested in that so he doesn't take it seriously. The other is to win Mayura's heart, which Mayura doesn't seem to notice very well. You could say ultimately his goal of keeping Loki in Midgard does succeed, but it was never his priority. In fact he forgets it was even something he was suppose to do several times.

For the most part Freyr is a joke character, every so often he might say something mysterious and serious, or even look the part, but it never lasts. He's very easy going and self absorbed and doesn't pay a whole lot of attention to things he doesn't personally care about. (Though he may remember them somewhere down the line.) He's demonstrated as a contrast to Freya who is mostly on top of things and much more cunning in her plots, though still capable of being flighty and silly in her own way. But there is a reason Freya is more or less in charge after Ragnarok and not Freyr.

We do see Freyr be more serious later in the series as he has no choice in the matter as he has to fill his role for Ragnarok. Though he was never truly on board with Odins plan, he does follow it close enough, yet also enables situations to undermine it. He claims to be playing the role of a villain rather than being an actual villain.

One of Freyr's strengths is in his ability to be optimistic and pursue his beliefs and desires without letting others get in his way. In fact no matter what other people say or do it won't change his mind once he's decided on something. His conviction is something to be admired in this respect. This is best illustrated in his pursuit of Mayura, who no matter what he doesn't give up on despite the fact she obviously doesn't think of him in a romantic way like he does of her.

He is also known for being rather skilled as a warrior and the best at Runes out of all the gods. Even Loki who is known for his skill with Runes states that Freyr surpasses him in that regard. It's hard to picture the flighty Freyr as being better than anyone, but when he is focused few can challenge him outside Odin, or Freya.

Freyr's imagination is also quite amazing and considering his "inventing" skill only works because of his imagination it's a great asset. Since his inventions do not work based on what they are made of but rather what they are intended to do this means the more creative Freyr was when making it the better it will work, as the only thing that allows them to function is the power of a god. His magic works similarly, the more creative he can be with his situation the better the spell is.

Freyr is immensely positive and rarely is held down for long. Even when he's feeling low it doesn't last long. Of course some of this could be the fact he seems to have an incredibly short attention span. Frequently he will change moods or abandon topics simply because Mayura walked by. In fact in vol 7 he decides to stay in Midgard, despite having planned to leave soon, simply because he saw Mayura and still wanted to pursue her. There is also a feeling that Freyr simply does not like to think about unpleasant things, and could be shifting his mood away from unpleasant topics on purpose. One could go so far as to say that a good chunk of his flighty ridiculous self might be an attempt to ignore the very serious situation of Odins current state and how it was affecting Asgard.

Freyr despite being considered a great warrior and user of magic as well as inventor and other things, is not the brightest person around. It's debatable how much of this is true lack of intelligence and how much of it is severe lack of anything near common sense. However in the end he is slow to realize things, is incredibly oblivious and gets confused easily. Though despite this he seems to be one of the few gods on Midgard (out of Loki, Thor, Freya and Heimdall) to know something happened to Odin to change him. A good example of his lacking the ability to figure simple things out is a trick Loki set up once while he was acting like a phantom Thief. Loki put a teddy bear in a box with a mirror on one side so it would look like it was floating. Freyr thought this was something with magnets and was desperate to know how it was done. It also took him several meetings with Loki to realize that child Loki and adult Loki were the same Loki he was suppose to be finding.

ABILITIES:
Freyr is a master of Rune magic, as well as a skilled warrior and a god. He is known for his inventions (which only function because he is a god) as well as art and music. Though he's not particularly good at either. His powers beyond that are vague and abstract, and his inventing skill seems to be based on if he can imagine it working it works. He is also a god of prosperity, and fertility and it is safe to say he has powers that reflect those aspects as well.

He is particularly noted at being better at magic than Loki, and one of the better physical fighters.

Generally he uses a lot of illusion magic which falls under one of the many uses of Rune magic. But again his abilities are loosely defined and left as "whatever a norse god should be able to do". And his application is only limited by his own imagination. Thankfully Freyr is rather silly and never thinks of very serious ways to use his magic.

INVENTORY: Gullinbrusti 2.0 which is a mechanical golden pig, Skidbladnir is his ship, which can be folded up and made small enough to put in a pocket. Though in the manga he just sort of summons it without any particular explanation. It can fly, but if it's allowed game mechanics wise it will just function like a regular ship on water. He might have access to his sword, though it's never actually mentioned in the manga, though the manga does take most everything else from his myths, and he isn't married so he might still have it.

MEMORY ALTERATION:
After Loki's godhood is revoked and the petty squabble over who gets to be in charge of Asgard is settled (Freya gets to be in charge), Freyr while helping (not really helping that much) rebuild Asgard wanders off and... somehow wanders onto Iniidae. How? He has no idea, but it's not exactly the first random thing to happen to him. Maybe Freya was playing a prank on him? It wouldn't be the first time.
